Thornhill housing proposals go on display at Thornhill Library
3rd Aug 2009
Local residents will have another chance to view the proposals for a residential development to the south of Thornhill, on a site adjacent to the Thornhill Hospital and Health Centre, when drawings go on display at the local community library on Townhead Street this week (3rd August).
Visitors to Thornhill library will be able to view a series of drawings of the proposed development during the library’s normal opening hours: 5-8pm on Mondays and Fridays, 3-5pm on Wednesdays, 2-4pm on Thursdays, and 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm on Saturdays.
A formal planning application, including proposals for 65 homes in Phase 1 and outline planning for the entire site, was lodged with Dumfries and Galloway Council in July.
The application has been lodged by Queensberry Properties Limited, a partnership between Cruden Homes, one of Scotland’s leading housebuilders, and Buccleuch Property, one of the country’s most established land and property experts.
Prior to lodging the planning application, an extensive community engagement exercise was undertaken to promote and discuss the proposals. This included meetings with Thornhill Community Council, contact with the local MP, MSPs and local councillors, as well as a well-attended community engagement event held at the Thornhill Inn, where the feedback on the proposals from the local community was generally very positive.
The site of the proposed development contains the remains of a Roman Fort, which will be protected and will form an important focal point for the development.
Some adjustments will be required to allow access from Townhead Street, and developers have undertaken to work with local residents to minimise disruption.
Speaking on behalf of Queensberry Properties, Nick Waugh, Commercial Property Director for Buccleuch Property, said:
“The extensive community engagement exercise which we undertook prior to lodging the planning application has provided us with a lot of positive and constructive feedback about the proposals. With the planning application now lodged, we’re keen to give local residents a further opportunity to see the details of what’s being proposed by displaying drawings at Thornhill Library.
“The proposals are great news for Thornhill, helping as they will to meet strong local demand for a mix of good quality family homes and to sustain local shops, businesses and amenities.”
